How Good Website Design Can Integrate Different Types of Media

Oct 10, 2014 by Paul

A business’ website experience makes a big impact on consumers and shows a lot about a business’ goals, culture, and brand personality. For this reason, businesses should be especially careful as to how they structure their site and what content they put on it. A cluttered website design may be a sign to consumers that the company isn’t completely up-to-date or ready for business.

One thing that businesses have to keep in mind is that they only have so much time when someone visits their site. People tend to skim text on digital screens and when they visit your website, they’ll quickly look for relevant information and then leave. This could all happen within thirty seconds.

Because of this, businesses should design their websites so their content is easy-to-digest. This means reducing and spacing out text, adding different types of media such as pictures and videos, and keeping loading times to a minimum.

A recent Forbes article discusses web design and its effect on consumers. The article explains that businesses should focus on the functionality of their website and the content they add to provide an optimal experience:

“For sites more text-based by nature, there is a trend towards richer content experiences — text integrated with pictures, video, and interactive functionality. Now, websites are better integrating text with visual components to give users a more immersive and interactive experience. Combining content and visuals to tell a story can help hold the attention of even the Internet’s most impatient users.”

If you haven’t updated your website in a few months, chances are that it’s time to change some things. At the very least, you’ll want to add new content for frequent viewers. New content also shows that your business is active and ready for new customers.
